Deadline 12/21: Opportunity to Apply for Source Water Collaborative Pilot

Please consider submitting an application for a new opportunity being offered by the Source Water Collaborative (SWC).

Source Water Collaborative Pilot Program Opportunity:  The SWC intends to sponsor three collaborative efforts in 2013 and is interested in receiving proposals from groups that are ready to initiate a specific collaborative effort using key agricultural and/or Clean Water Act authorities to implement conservation practices and other effective approaches to protect drinking water sources.  The sponsorship would be a 10-month commitment and would include planning support.   Please download this document for more details about the pilot program, including criteria, instructions for submitting your response and an FAQ.

Eligible Recipients:  State and local governments, regional planning organizations and other cross-jurisdictional or multi-state organizations, and non-governmental organizations (non-profit, 501(c)(3)) can apply for this pilot program.

Due Dates:  The deadline to apply for the SWC Pilot Program is December 21, 2012 at 12:00 PM EST.  Anyone interested in applying should submit an expression of interest by December 12, 2012.  A notice of decisions is expected to be made by February 22, 2013.

EPA SepticSmart Program Promotes Good Homeowner Practices

EPA has just launched its national SepticSmart program to promote proper septic system care and maintenance by homeowners. SepticSmart was developed by EPA in cooperation with its public and private sector partners, and will serve as an online resource for industry practitioners and local governments, providing access to tools to help educate their clients and residents.  As nearly one quarter of all households in the United States depend on septic systems, these tools serve to promote good homeowner practices such as regularly scheduling inspections of the system, preventative measures such as not pouring cooking grease down the drain, and water conservation efforts to reduce septic system failures and help prolong the life of their systems.  To view the toolbox of downloadable materials including educational postcards, door hangers, and homeowner guides (in English and Spanish), visit the SepticSmart web page at: www.epa.gov/septicsmart.
